Studio Apartment

This is a fully furnished studio apartment on Algonquin Island, part of the Toronto Islands. Rent from mid September, 2009 to May 31, 2010 for $1450./month. Cable TV, high speed internet, heat and electricity are included, along with use of laundry facilities, yard, BBQ and a canoe. Loft bedroom with skylight. Private porch and entrance. During the "high season" the apartment is rented nightly as a housekeeping bed and breakfast. In June, at the latest, it will again operate as a B&B. Because I will be taking bookings for the B&B, there is no opportunity for the sublet to be extended past the end of May. An earlier end date can be considered.

I have set the dates to give the winter tenant the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the Toronto Islands as the seasons change from autumn through winter and into the greening of spring.

This location would be well appreciated by a naturalist and outdoor enthusiast. Canoeing and kayaking can be enjoyed almost all year. You might see kayakers between the ice-flows of a sunny day in February.

The fall and spring bird migration bring birdwatching opportunities and sometimes eagles visit during winter.

We cycle all year round; many of our neighbours enjoy brisk walks and jogging. The distance to Hanlan's Point and back is 10 K.

There may be conditions in the winter for cross-country skiing and playing shinny or long distance skating on wild ice. Most years the iceboats come out of storage.

There is a down side of the winter ice conditions. Some years the ferry cannot get to the Ward's Ferry Dock. When this happens a bus takes Islanders to either Hanlan's dock or the Western Gap, which never freezes.

There are no private cars on the island. Parking is available on the mainland, either municipal permit parking or in the private lots near the ferry dock.

Island living has some challenges but offers a calm alternative in the heart of the city.
